I live in Sandpoint Idaho and I love dog activities. It is so much fun to find new places to go with my dog, whether it is for a walk or hiking. The dog community in Sandpoint can be really active too! In this blog post I will share some of the best dog-related events and activities that you can do around here.
1. Yappy Hour
The Better Together Animal Alliance facilitates Yappy Hour, a dog-friendly social event held on the last Thursday of each month from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m., May through September, at the dog park located at 870 Kootenai Cutoff Road in Ponderay!
This is a fun event where they set up booths, you can drink beer from local breweries and listen to music while socializing your dog with not only other dogs but also plenty of people.
2. Visit Downtown Sandpoint
Downtown Sandpoint recently revamped the streets to allow for plenty of new walking room! This means you can easily walk your well trained dog on the streets without worry of traffic.
Many of the stores in the area allow pets in their stores (make sure before entering), and some will even put dog bowls with water out front to give your furry friends a drink of water!
Of course there are plenty of conversations abounding where other people asking you about your dog, and you get to share your stories with them.
3. Hiking in Sandpoint
This is one of our favorite things to do in the Sandpoint area! Hiking with the dogs throughout the region is a blast. There are plenty of trails ranging from paved paths like the Sandcreek Trail, to much more challenging hikes like Scotchman Peak.
These trails range from being able to leave your dog off-leash, to needing to be on leash at all times! However most all of the trails do allow for dogs in some capacity.
Why not exercise both yourself and your dog in our awesome small town.
4. The Dog park
Even outside of Yappy Hour, the dog park in Ponderay is an awesome place to go with your dog! There is a fun agility course, a drinking spot, and even a covered area for the humans to hang out as well.
We find that there is a constant flow of dog owners hanging out in the park, not only in the summer, but even in the winter as well!
5. Dog friendly eating spots
There are many different restaurants that allow dogs to sit with you while you eat, mainly outside. Some great examples are Mickduffs, Laughing Dog Brewery, Spud’s, and the Burger Dock, however there are so many more examples as well (however that will have to be a future article).
Eating with your dog is a blast, and you should definitely give it a try!
Conclusion
It is so awesome living in such a dog friendly area with dog-friendly events and activities happening all the time. I am so lucky to be able to spend my days with my dog exploring new places in Sandpoint, Idaho.
We really are a community that enjoys getting to be around dogs, and it is always fun getting to talk to other dog owners that you pass by when doing one of the above things.
