Have you been wondering what internet options are available in your area? Well, we have the answer! In this blog post, we will discuss all of the different internet options that are available in Sandpoint, Idaho.

We hope that this article helps you to find internet service providers for your home so that you can stop worrying about how to get online and start browsing!

Hard Wire Internet

If you are able to get a hard wire internet, it is definitely one of the best solutions! It offers the highest speeds, with the best latencies, and overall the best service. However in the Sandpoint area it is also limited to being nearby towns or cities, as they physically have to install the network underground for you to be able to access it.

We are also starting to see Fiber Internet options in the area, which allow for extremely fast internet connections akin to what larger cities have.

1. Ting Fiber Internet

This company was the first of the internet providers to offer fiber internet here in the Sandpoint community. They offer plans ranging from 50mb per second, all the way up to 1000mb (gigabit) internet. With pricing that ranges with the available speed. All of the plans offer unlimited data, so you won’t have to worry about running out while streaming your favorite show.

2. Ziply Fiber

Ziply is a newcomer to the area, however they are quickly spreading through the area, offering fiber internet. They have extremely similar plans, starting at 50mb per second, to the same gigabit per second that Ting offers, making this is a direct competitor in our market. I would highly recommend cross shopping both before making your decision.

Northland, which recently was acquired by Vyve has been around for a while, and have one of the widest ranges of hard wire internet in the area! While they are not a fiber internet company, they do offer up to 100mb per second, and are able to offer internet to many more customers than the fiber companies above, and should work for most anyone in the area.

Line of Sight Internet

If you can’t get hard line internet, I really like the line of sight style internet! This requires a line of sight to a specific tower, but results in quick speeds! The downside to this style of internet, is that you have to have a line of sight to a tower from one of the service providers, so not everyone is able to access it, especially if you are in valleys, or pointing away from the towers.

4. Air-Pipe Internet (WOW)

This company is one that I am quite impressed with! This line of sight internet is based out of Spokane, however has local towers on Schweitzer, and a couple other mountains in the area, to make sure they are able to service as many people as possible. Their pricing ranges from their starter bundle at just under $40 up to just under $110 for their top tier plan.

5. Intermax

6. POVN (Pend Orielle Valley Network)

This is a local (mostly) company that offers a great network of line of sight internet! You can easily check your availability on the site linked below, as they plainly state where their towers are. Their pricing ranges from around $75 all the way up to about $130 depending on the service you are hoping to achieve.

Satellite Internet

If the above types of internet are not accessible, then satellite internet is going to be your next best bet. This style of internet utilizes satellites (yes those type of satellites) and they bounce signals off of a dish that is installed next to or on your home.

The upside of this type of service is its availability, as it doesn’t require any physical installation of lines or towers like the above options. That said, the downsides will be longer latency, which is less about speed, and more about the time it takes when you click a button, until it registers, due to the distance from your dish to the satellite.

7. Hughes-net

This is really the only satellite company that I am aware of (that isn’t in beta), and they offer an over all great product. They have plenty of different plans to offer, including unlimited data, which is a great option considering it is satellite.

Cell Network

The final style of internet options is actually already in your pocket! Cell phones can easily become a hotspot for your wireless devices in your home. Added to this, you can also purchase hotspots, or even physical boxes that can be installed outside of your home to get the best signal possible for the cell provider of choice.

8. Verizon

This is definitely the king of cell phone services in the Sandpoint and surrounding areas! They offer the widest range of service throughout the town, and out of town homes. They also offer hot spot services on their phones, physical devices, and even externally mountain internet options.
