What weather does Sandpoint, Idaho hold?
Sandpoint is just an hour away from Canada, which as you can assume from that, means we have a lot of cold, and a lot of snow! However this also results in an amazing winter wonderland that cities just a couple hours lower down, can’t have.
Depending on the year, it can range from a winter full of bitter cold days with little snow, to years where we have feet of snow but keeps things a bit warmer! However what you can count on, is that there will be plenty of cold, and plenty of snow regardless.
Generally our winters are dark, with it getting dark at certain times of the year at around 4pm (PST), so you have to make sure you use the light we do have to the fullest. Which brings me to the next section!
What can you do during the winter in Sandpoint?
The fact that we have many months of winter here, results in the locals creating plenty of things to do that revolve around this type of weather.
We have festivals, activities, hiking trails, and even biking trails available to get to enjoy the outdoors.
Do you like to Ski? You can be on Schweitzer mountain within a half hour enjoying the plenty of winter sports that they offer.
This is also the time of the year that people enjoy having people over, or just settling in to catch up on their favorite shows.
How long does winter last during winter?
Generally speaking, what we would consider winter starts in the middle of November (or earlier, depending on the year) through about mid-march when we can expect the final major snow to start melting off from the area.
However if you are from the southern states, you likely will start wearing coats in September, or October, as it does get rather cold during the evenings during those months.
